FX Design Awards Trophy: Designing a Symbol of Achievement
An award must do more than mark an occasion. It needs to represent the identity of an event, celebrate the achievement of its recipient and become an object worth keeping long after the evening has ended.
Commissioned by HIMACS, sponsor of the prestigious FX Design Awards, Stuart Melrose designed the official trophy presented to winners from across the international interior design industry.
A Form Refined Over Two Years
The project provided an opportunity to explore a different scale of design: creating a refined and recognisable object that communicates excellence through proportion, material and detail.
Following the success of the original trophy, Stuart was invited to reinterpret the design for a second consecutive year. The established silhouette remained, while its visual character evolved through carefully selected colour combinations, refined inlaid details and subtle contrasts in the HIMACS material.
The second design demonstrated how measured changes can give a familiar form a distinct new identity while preserving the clarity and prestige of the original award.
Material and Manufacture
Each trophy was formed and precision-inlaid in HIMACS, using the material’s ability to create smooth, seamless transitions between colour, surface and sculptural form.
Advanced fabrication and meticulous finishing allowed the awards to achieve a clean, considered appearance suited to one of the design industry’s most respected celebrations of creativity, innovation and achievement.
