Some designs emerge from elaborate sketches and complex concepts. Others begin with a simple material experiment.
Listra was born from an exploration into seamlessly laminating different colours and finishes of HI-MACS®, investigating how contrasting surfaces could be brought together so precisely that they became one. Rather than concealing the joint, Stuart Melrose chose to celebrate it, allowing a single bold stripe to become the defining feature of the design.
The result is a table that demonstrates how the simplest ideas are often the most enduring.
Less, Carefully Considered
Taking its name from the Portuguese word listra, meaning stripe, the design embraces restraint. Its clean architectural form allows the contrasting materials to take centre stage, creating a quiet visual rhythm through colour, texture and proportion.
There are no unnecessary details or decorative elements competing for attention — only carefully balanced geometry and precise craftsmanship. Every proportion, edge and transition has been considered to create a piece that feels both contemporary and timeless.
Designed Around the Client
One of Listra’s greatest strengths is its adaptability. Constructed from two seamlessly bonded HI-MACS® surfaces, the table can be made in a wide choice of colours and finishes to complement its architectural setting or interior palette.
The clean, linear design also lends itself naturally to bespoke commissions. Custom dimensions are frequently requested for residential and commercial projects, making Listra one of the most flexible pieces in the Stuart Melrose furniture collection.
Contemporary Craftsmanship and Recognition
Each Listra table is individually handcrafted to order in England, using two contrasting colours or textures of HI-MACS® precision-bonded to create a flawless transition between materials. Every piece is hand-finished to a refined semi-gloss sheen, individually numbered and marked with the Stuart Melrose studio logo.
Listra has been exhibited at leading design exhibitions throughout the UK, including 100% Design – Futures in London, the Design Show Liverpool during Liverpool’s year as European City of Culture, Grand Designs Live and the Southampton Boat Show. Its understated elegance has also attracted attention from the international design press.
